I am beyond excited to share this update!
Bennett is officially a candidate for a 3D Ear with Dr. Lewin!
Quite a while back we consulted with her virtually and then flew to California as we all thought surgery would be happening shortly after. It was around this time that the surgery criteria changed at her practice. The age requirement for surgery went from 3 years to 5 years of age and a head circumference minimum was also required. So we have been patiently waiting :)
Over the weekend Dr. Lewin hosted a Microtia and Atresia Confrence in Chicago. Our family joined in the fun and we consulted with her once again. This time we got the green light to proceed with surgery!!! Bennett had a 3D image taken of his big ear that Dr. Lewin will replicate for his new ear.
We are looking at 2026 because he will require two surgeries and it’s best to have them done in the same year for insurance reasons. Her surgeries book out 1-1.5 years in advance because she is THAT incredible!
2026 may sound shocking to most but it will be here before we know it! Truthfully, we are thankful for the slow downs because it’s given Bennett time grow and learn about his differences. Now he is old enough to be an active participant in the decision for surgery which is so important!
