deep breath.

kaley hilfman

I never imagined our newborn would have 10+ doctor visits in less than 3 weeks. Pediatricians, Cardiologist, Audiologist, Otolaryngologist, Plastic Surgeon, Geneticist, occupational/feeding therapist are just a few.

I also didn’t imagine the gender of our babe wouldn’t be the only surprise we would receive when he entered the world. Bennett was born with a malformation of his lip aka macrostomia. Basically the corner didn’t fuse together so he has an extra long smile on the left side. This will be repaired between 4-6 months of age. His left ear did not finish forming as well - we have learned the term for this is Microtia. This typically isn’t repaired until age 6-10. (That was a tough one to hear) This weeks hearing test showed that hearing in the right ear is 100% and we are SO thankful for that. The test on the left ear was inconclusive and will need to be repeated next month. There is a good chance he is deaf in the left ear, but we are trying to remain hopeful.

Some days my fears and worries get the best of me. Fear of the future and all the unknowns. My heart aches knowing my sweet little guy will face hardships that seem too big to endure. I find strength in knowing that the Lord gave us this precious boy for a reason! I truly never knew my heart could feel so much love for something. My sweet Bennett, you are so strong and so incredibly loved. 💙
