We got the call with Bennett’s MRI results :
Brain 100% perfect!
RIGHT ear and all of his nerves are 100%
Left side shows :
A small Facial Nerve -(this nerve controls facial expressions)
A very small, possibly absent Vestibulocochlear Nerve (this nerve is responsible for hearing and balance) — an absence of this nerve confirms he is deaf on the left side.
Both of these nerves run through an Auditory Canal which is shown to be narrow on the left side. He does have a cochlea on the left side but since his Vestibular System is not completely normal he is not a good candidate for a cochlear implant.
As for bone structure - the left zygomatic arch (cheek bones) and left mandible (jaw) are smaller. BUT he has all of the joints in there which is a blessing.
None of these findings are a surprise to us and we are relieved to finally have some answers.
There were no bad surprises on the imaging and for that we are thankful.
